The music of Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anna Muldrow is everything that modern soul isn't: weird, political, damaged and ethereal. So it's not surprising that their collaboration on Beautiful Mindz is wholly uncanny. Blurry-eyed political consciousness is strewn over dreamy lo-fi soul pastiche and warbling funk, while the vocals are off-kilter and often off-key. But somehow it all gels into a weird miasma of neo-soul psych.
