Alpha finds its footing here, combining actual songs that are more than just empty vessels for downtempo grooves. Guest vocalists float around in the melancholy of old John Barry soundtracks, 1960s baroque pop and classic soul records, but all the different styles run together smoothly, creating a lost, but hopeful landscape that is echoed in the album's title.
