Only two of Film School's original members return for their second full-length, but the adjusted roster has helped propel their weighty, shoegazer-in-space style into a more dynamic and cohesive sound. On Hideout, Film School enhance the pensive playfulness of their debut with lush textures of melancholy and melody that teeter on a hazy cloud of reverb, fadeouts, bustling builds and rocking rhythms. Frontman Greg Bertens' lofty lamenting boasts well alongside new bassist and backup vocalist, Lorelei Plotcyzk, whose feminine touches add the "dream" to their dark brand of pop.
