Biography

For most Americans, their initial exposure to Joe Purdy's folk-pop came at the tail end of the third episode of Lost, the montage when Hugo listens to the tune "Wash Away (Reprise)" on his headphones while everybody else wanders about the beach, coming to terms with the crash. For those of you who missed it, Purdy is not unlike adult-alternative god Jack Johnson: an acoustic-flavored crooner who excels at catchy tunes perfect for campfires and long walks along tropical beaches. Purdy grew up in Arkansas (a fact which explains his music's subtle rustic flavors). Looking to make it in the music biz, he relocated to Los Angeles in 2001. After gigging around town and releasing his debut album, 2003's StompinGrounds, Purdy was approached by Lost creator J.J. Abrams to write a song. "Wash Away," which captures Purdy's husky voice perfectly, became a significant hit on both the pop and country charts. Never one to get hung up on commercial success, the singer-songwriter has gone on to release seven more albums since that classic scene. His music has also appeared in Grey's Anatomy and a commercial for Kia's Spectra.
