Charo

About

For the generation of Americans who grew up in the 1970s and '80s, Charo will always be associated with sitcom guest appearances. Her "coochie-coochie" catchphrase and eye-popping attire was the sort of thing that made even Mr. Roarke look a little hot under the collar -- not to mention those stellar commercials for Maaco Auto Body. Lesser known facts are that she was once married to hipster fave Xavier Cougat and that she studied classical guitar under Andres Segovia. In the early part of the '90s, she embarked on a musical career that garnered her critical attention, releasing an album of Flamenco pop that made the Billboard Top-50. Her 1997 record Gusto follows similar themes, but injects a stronger element of radio-friendly Dance Pop.
