David Bromberg

  • Genre: New Folk
  • Hometown: Philadelphia

About

An encyclopedic knowledge of American music from Tin Pan Alley to all manner of Acoustic and Electric Blues, Rock and Roll, Bluegrass, and Country, coupled with his mastery of the guitar and a seeming ability to play just about any stringed instrument made Bromberg a much in demand sideman. He got his start in the Greenwich Village folk scene in the mid '60s and throughout his career he has lent his considerable skills to Bob Dylan, Jerry Jeff Walker, Phoebe Snow, George Harrison and many other folks. Bromberg went out on his own in the early '70s and his solo work reflects not only his virtuoso playing, but a keen understanding of good songwriting. During the '70s and '80s, Bromberg was a mainstay on the folk festival and nightclub circuit with a large and devoted following. Now living in semi retirement in Chicago, word has it that Bromberg buys, sells and repairs vintage violins.
