There are many ELOs, and this stellar two-disc set showcases all of them. The intergalactic prog-rock band? Check. The symphonic Beatles disciples? Here, in spades. The purveyors of glorious '70s soft rock? Oh, yes. The electro disco-rockers? Present and accounted for, my friend. Once scoffed at by snooty sonic snobs, such Jeff Lynne creations as "Livin' Thing," "Do Ya," "Evil Woman" and "Turn to Stone" have only improved with age. Even the lesser-known later tracks, such as "Rain Is Falling," prove that instead of diminishing substance, high style actually improves it.
