Gilfema

Lionel Loueki is one of the most original and vital jazz guitarists of his generation. Loueki, who also sings, succeeds in keeping an African style and sound while working within an American framework. Gilfema is made up of Loueki and a superb European rhythm section that includes Swedish-Italian bassist Massimo Biolcati and Hungarian drummer Ferenc Nemeth. Here, the NYC-based band is joined by the clarinetists Anat Cohen and John Ellis. This is vital, inventive music that recalls both Africa and a summer day in Central Park.
