This isn't the best Brel collection, but any introduction to the brilliant, groundbreaking Belgian singer-songwriter is a good one. A sensitive, dramatic vocalist, Brel employed the structure and sound of French chanson to create dozens of gorgeous love songs. He was also famous for breaking taboos -- he penned lyrics about sex, death, and social hypocrisy.
