Super Session was an excuse for three heavies to jam together. But that doesn't negate the album's importance. Along with landmark releases from Jeff Beck, Cream and Jimi Hendrix, Super Session turned '60s rock 'n' roll into '70s hard rock. With every chunky riff, every pile-driving fill, these guys are inventing modern bombast. Stephen Stills, in particular, breathes hellish fire. Back then the dude was always up for a challenge, and in this case it's keeping up with the great Mike Bloomfield.
