Ten of these songs are previously unreleased, but what really makes this album essential to blues enthusiasts is that Alan Lomax taped these tracks on a janky reel-to-reel recorder on McDowell's front porch in 1957. Highlights include some heartfelt guitar work by Miles Pratcher and Fanny Davis' homemade kazoo. This is a blues/folk purist's treat.
