This fifth album captures Motley Crue at the apex of their sometimes sloppy career, sobering up and atoning for their past sins by getting rid of their longtime producer Tom Werman and then signing on with Metallica's secret weapon, Bob Rock, to oversee their recordings. Such clear-eyed focus produced their first album to top the charts with a cadre of tightly wrought songs, including the breathless "Kickstart My Heart," and sneering Led Zeppelin-esque "Rattlesnake Shake," as well as the unexpectedly melodic and sincere "Without You."
