Noisettes

The Noisettes' brand of scrappy, high-energy garage rock owes much to Stooges devotees like the Hives and the White Stripes, and with her careful study of Karen O. singer/bassist Shingai Shoniwa might be the most capable female vocalist to show up to the sausage party of the post-millennial garage revival. Shoniwa's spirited snarl makes the catchy, fuzzed-out tunes convincing and lends a sultry urgency to slower moments like "The Count of Monte Christo." But bar-chord anthems are the band's strong suit, with certain singles in "Don't Give Up" and "Bridge to Canada."
