Make sure you leave some space near the top of your list of super-cool instruments (we know you have one) for the quijada. This rattle is made from -- OK, it pretty much is a donkey jaw that's played by either banging on the jaw bone so the teeth rattle or scraping a stick along the teeth to make a kind of swaying, guiro-esque rhythm. It's used throughout Latin America, particularly in traditions with a strong African influence like Mexican son jarocho and Afro-Peruvian music.
