Music by Ry Cooder collects pieces from 11 of the guitarist's film scores, and whether you've seen the movies is irrelevant. Cooder's atmospheric Americana totally stands on its own. In fact, its spare and at times desolate feel clearly inspired the desert rock of Giant Sand, Calexico and Maquiladora. Of special interest to hardcore Cooder fans is inclusion of three previously unreleased tracks from Southern Comfort, the gory post-Deliverance flick about the evils lurking in rural America.
