Tamyra Grey came into the American public's consciousness as the svelte singer with the elastic voice who was controversially voted off the first season of American Idol. But the outcry -- and outrage in some quarters -- didn't harm her career; she was signed to Idol creator Simon Cowell's label by the end of the year. After a flirtation with acting, Grey returned to what she does best in 2004 with the release of her debut album, The Dreamer. Grey wrote most of the songs on the album, and she's got an assured pop touch to match her buttery voice.
