The Affair

Singer Kali Holloway gets a lot of comparisons to Blondie's Debbie Harry and Ronnie Spector. Fair enough -- her band the Affair plays the kind of Brooklyn-based guitar pop rooted in pre punk's angularity. And she inflects with a soulful voice reminiscent of the 45s in Wolfman Jack's record collection, but the pogo-friendly, synth-laden "Tim's Song" or the sing-along chorus of "Unwanted Company" recalls the Nerves' hook laden power pop more than Blondie's trendy new wave. "Jailbait Date" throws the same kind of punches that Portland Oregon's Wipers were throwing on 1980's Is This Real.
