Trivium carve their own identity on their mature fourth full-length, produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Shadows Fall). Trying to shed the Metallica comparisons their last effort drew, frontman Matt Heafy's Hetfield-like snarl and drummer Travis Smith's Ulrich-like double-bass work still make for similarities. But the intricate guitars on tracks like "Kirisute Gomen" and "The Calamity" not only separate these Florida young guns from their heroes, they also display a healthy progression from previous works.
