Van Zant

Johnny and Jimmie Van Zant, two princes of southern rock's dynasty, deliver an evolution of the revolution as they blend rollicking roadhouse foot-stompers with weepy country numbers. Ballads like "Nobody Gonna Tell Me What To Do" and lyrics like "They can just kiss my butt goodbye" reinforce that this isn't Jim Nabors.

Van Zant are Southern-rock vets who have ended up country by default. Their older
brother Ronnie was the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd; the brothers in the band are
Donnie, from .38 Special, and Johnny, who sang with the reconstituted Eighties version of
Skynyrd. Their sincerity is evident, but they don't bring anything fresh to the cliches
they're recycling here.
